BMW Exhaust Systems: Fitment Guide by Chassis

TITANVEIN builds exhaust components for BMW chassis from the F-series through to the current G-series: downpipes, midpipes, cat-backs, axle-backs, tips and the fabrication stock to join them. This page maps every system we make to the chassis it fits, so you can go from "which car" to "which part" without guessing.

How a BMW exhaust is put together

Front to back, four sections. Knowing which one you are changing is the difference between a bolt-on job and a fabrication job.

  1. Downpipe — bolts to the turbo outlet and carries the first metre of hot gas. This is where the catalyst sits on a factory car, and where most power restrictions are.
  2. Midpipe — the section between downpipe and rear box. This is where an X-pipe, Z-pipe or equal-length section changes the tone and scavenging.
  3. Cat-back or axle-back — the rear section and muffler. A cat-back replaces everything from the catalyst back; an axle-back replaces only what sits behind the rear axle.
  4. Tips — the visible end. Cosmetic on most cars, but the tip inlet diameter and cutout shape have to match the bumper.

Fitment by chassis

Chassis Engine Years What we make
M3 G80 / M4 G82 / M2 G87 S58 3.0T 2020+ Downpipe, single and equal-length midpipe, cat-back, valved cat-back, axle-back
M3 F80 / M4 F82 S55 3.0T 2014–2019 Single and equal-length midpipe, cat-back, axle-back, tips
3 / 4 Series B58 3.0T — Downpipe, single midpipe, cat-back, valved cat-back, axle-back, tips
3 / 4 / 5 Series (330i, 430i, 530i) B48 2.0T — Cat-back, valved cat-back
M5 F90 / X5M F95 S63 4.4T — Cat-back, valved cat-back, axle-back, Z-pipe midpipe
X Series — — Downpipe, cat-back, valved cat-back, axle-back, tips
M5 G90 4.4T 2025+ Cat-back in titanium and stainless, valved
M240i G42 B58 3.0T 2022–2025 Valved cat-back

M3 G80 / M4 G82 / M2 G87 — S58

The current M car platform. The downpipe is the usual first step, then the midpipe if you want more volume without drone, then the rear section.

M3 F80 / M4 F82 — S55

3 / 4 Series — B58 and B48

Two different engines, two different parts lists. B58 cars use a larger bore system than B48 cars, so nothing is interchangeable between them.

M5 F90 / X5M F95 and X Series

Choosing the material

Every BMW system above is available in SS304, and most are available in titanium. The difference is weight, heat handling and how the car sounds. If you are deciding between the two, read titanium vs stainless steel for exhausts before you pick a variant.

Choosing the joint

Anywhere the system comes apart repeatedly — midpipe to axle-back, or a turbo outlet you expect to remove — a V-band is faster and seals better than a slip joint or a two-bolt flange. Sizing is by outside diameter, not by nominal pipe size: see the V-band and flange size guide.

Questions we get before an order

Will a G80 downpipe fit an F80?

No. The S58 and S55 turbo outlets are different, so the flange pattern and the routing both change. Parts are listed by chassis for that reason.

Do I need a tune after a downpipe?

On a catalyst-equipped car, replacing the downpipe will normally trigger a check-engine light until the ECU is corrected. Plan the tune with the hardware.

Can I buy the rear section without the midpipe?

Yes on most chassis — axle-backs are listed separately. Check the inlet diameter against your existing midpipe before ordering; if they differ, a V-band clamp kit and a pair of flanges will let you join them.

What if my chassis is not listed?

We also supply universal fabrication parts — pipe, bends and bellows, V-band flanges and clamps — so a system can be built for a car we do not list yet.
